Religion
All the major religions have existed in Kerala, each one almost since its inception. For the most part Kerala and its people welcomed newcomers and their beliefs, so each religion found acceptance and, if necessary refuge.
In Kerala today 60% of the population is Hindu, 20% is Muslim and the remaining 20% is Christian. While people of differing faiths live throughout the state the Muslim population is generally located in the north, with Christians more centrally situated.
